The colour is pale lemon with golden hues. Bubbles are rather small, numerous and quite lively. On the nose it is restrained and has kept youthful character though matured for more than three years on the lees. It is reminiscent of ripe apples and pears; gentle notes of white flowers and lees are adding to the complexity. Fine, interlaced. Dry on the palate, medium bodied, with distinct acidities, which even Champagne would not be ashamed of. Delicate on the palate but well expressed. Mousse is delicate. A true successor to the 2015 vintage which has obtained a Decanter Gold medal.
Furmint Brut is a great aperitif and makes perfect match with delicate freshly served seafood, cured meat, smoked trout, or salmon.
After a cold spring and warm but not hot summer, September was warm, accelerating the ripeness hugely. This is a classic Styrian vintage bringing fruit forward varietally expressed wines which are nicely balanced with plenty of freshness.
Classic, bottle fermented, with 36 months ageing on the lees.
It is ready now but will be in perfect shape for the following 3-4 years. Keep until 2020-2024.
