2018 BENEDICT WHITE - White wine

2021 Benedict White

White wine

Benedict White is a classic entry-level blend of the region, consisting of local and international varieties. Welschriesling and Furmint are responsible for freshness and local character, Pinot Gris adds to the body, while Traminer and Riesling are adding to the aromatic complexity.

Benedict White 2021 displays medium golden colour. It is youthful on the nose quite intense with gooseberry, elderflower and green bell pepper dominating the nose. Quite complex for an entry level wine. Dry on the palate, with high acidity and lighter body. Flavour character on the palate is surprisingly intense and varied with fruity and herbal notes being dominant. Bit edgy, lively. With linger finish. Amazing value.

Benedict white is an all-rounder giving plenty of pleasure when enjoyed with most of the everyday dishes, cured meat, barbeque, picnic or grill. You can enjoy it just on its own. Excellent as wine by the glass.

  • Grauburgunder: 35%
  • Welschriesling: 30%
  • Furmint: 30%
  • Traminer: 5%

Vintage 2021 was third in a row, where harvest times were stretched well into October, which was very much a normality 20-30 years ago. Prolonged ripening was allowed enabling grapes to achieve perfect ripeness while having rather unusual balance with high alcohol and high acidity levels. Varietal characters are often stunningly pure. A classic Styrian vintage producing many “vins de garde”.

Best in its first two year, but in our experience, it can be enjoyed for at least two more years. Drink from 2023-2026.
