It displays pale golden colour. Youthful on the nose with intense and succulent aroma of wild roses and lychee with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ripe apples at the back. Very juicy and inviting. Residual sugar (medium sweet) is perfectly balanced with medium acidity levels. It possesses intense character fulfilling the mouth completely. Its light body, freshness and good vibrancy are contributing to a its great drinkability and very versatile food matching options. Finish is close to minute long. A very fine medium sweet Gewürtz indeed!
It goes well with spicy foods, especially Asian such as spicy salads or dishes with curry sauces. can be very much enjoyed on its own, even as a slightly different aperitif. Wine that inspires creativity. In a top Dutch restaurant, it is served with slightly smoked red gurnard fish with watermelon and verbena, dash-bouillon, seaweed, shaved citrus-ice and sake.
Vintage 2021 is third in a row, where harvest times were stretched well into October, which was very much a normality 20-30 years ago. Prolonged ripening was allowed enabling grapes to achieve perfect ripeness while having rather unusual balance with high alcohol and high acidity levels. Varietal characters are often stunningly pure. A classic Styrian vintage producing many “vins de garde”.
In stainless steel tanks, matured on the fine lees.
Although complex primary notes are essential here, we believe it will mature gracefully for another 3-6 years. Drink 2022-2028.
