White wine
Medium deep lemon-golden colour. Beautifully mature and very varied nose of white flowers, honey, acacia, with lemon and grapefruit in the back. There are some notes of fine oak as well. Dry medium bodied, clearly showing key Furmint attribute – high level of balanced acidities, enabling longevity. Slightly oily texture. Still youthful and vibrant. Quite composed and balanced on the palate with plenty of taste. After vintages 2011 and 2012 this is only third Furmint Ilovci in a series.
Raw or slightly roasted sea food, such as scallops or salad with soft cheeses.
After a cold spring and warm but not hot summer, September was warm, accelerating the ripeness hugely. This is a classic Styrian vintage bringing fruit forward varietally expressed wines which are nicely balanced with plenty of freshness. A great year for aromatic white grapes.
18 months in big Slavonian oak. Lees, stirring.
Fully mature, can be approached now but will be gratifying for at least 6 more years until about 2026.
