Furmint is the oldest grape of our region. It is quite certain it came to our places hundreds of years ago. Local name – Šipon (“sheepon”) was obtained when French soldiers while occupying these places were tasting it and commenting: “Mhmm, c’est si bon”.
Vintage 2021 displays pale golden color and delicate, almost discrete, fruit forwards nose. It shows classic varietal characteristics of ripe pears, apples, and some citrusy notes with a bit of yeastiness.
Very dry on the palate, light bodied, with plenty of ripe acidities which will wake you up in no time. Although being delicate it offers a good intensity great persistence and length. Quite a hallmark of our Furmint. It is hard to imagine a better aperitif wine.
Appetizers, seafood, cold meats, fatty dishes. Oysters or sushi anyone? An excellent gastronomic, food friendly wine.
Vintage 2021 is third in a row, where harvest times were stretched well into October, which was very much a normality 20-30 years ago. Prolonged ripening was allowed enabling grapes to achieve perfect ripeness while having rather unusual balance with high alcohol and high acidity levels. Varietal characters are often stunningly pure. A top, classic Styrian vintage which produced many “vins de garde”.
Fermentation in stainless steel tanks
In best condition already but can be kept for at least ten years (and we mean it), well over 2030.
